Target Audience Justifcation

Target Audience Justification

My target audience needs to be justified to show that I have researched who my target audience will be for my Slasher film so that I am making sure I am advertising my own Slasher film for the right audience.

The first thing I did when watching the films was to look at the age certificates of them which would give me a idea of the age bracket I would be looking at advertise for. From the information I have found all of the films I watched were 15+ which shows me that my target audience wont be below 15, although this is already known because I am making a Slasher film which is advertised for older people. From watching the films there wont any younger characters under the age of 15 used as central protagonists which shows me that my central protagonist is unlikely to be 15 years or younger although it could be seen to be a original element using a child as a victim as it is not expected and is often more shocking for the audience. After looking at the age certificate I then had to produce my questionnaires which was meant to shorten my target audience to see which age group most watched Slasher films and therefore would be my age range. The reason for doing this is that it is to vast to try and make a Slasher film which would fit everyone’s specifications due the age range. From my questionnaires I discovered that my target audience was people aged 15-30 years old and this resulted in me then asking my focus group to see if I could discover something that would fit everyone. The focus group meant I had to propose three ideas which included original elements and ask them about my three ideas to see what they preferred to see as a film although they thought that by using adjusting this idea it would make it more orginal and effective. anted more depth to the victim and the killer which would be achieved by more background. They also told me what they wanted something more orginal and they were worried that usinh children could be a problem so I came up with the idea to fit both reasons by using no dialogue. From this result I found out that they wanted idea three which involved children which is unusual to see although due to the cliff-hanger at the end which leaves the audience feeling surprised and this has given me my final idea.

Hypothetical Distribution Plan

Hypothetical Distribution
For a hypothetical distribution plan there is several things that I could do which would allow my film to be marketed in different ways although with the budget that I currently have there is only a certain amount of things that I am able to do.

Viral marketing is a successful way to market your film as the majority of people use the internet and for my target audience 18-30 years old this is expected. A successful use of viral marketing is with dark knight where they did viral marketing months before the film was released due to their pre-determined audience. This is a positive thing because from having the pre determined audience it allows them to follow certain characters from the film and this is shown with people following the Joker and other people following Mayor of the film as they are both contrasting characters. Below shows a website that was used to follow the Joker and the mayor and also includes facts about him that would interest fans of theirs.

I thought this site was interesting as it is providing the viewers with a variety of links which leads to other sites showing how the Joker has defaced them and also shows his disregard for society and the people whom live in the city which is something that will appeal to this audience as it will show how he wanting his pre determined audience to react from seeing his. The source below is showing one of the links that if you clicked on you would received which is showing how what the Joker has done which would create a reaction from the audience.

One of the most popular ways to distribute a film is by using a trailer which reveals snippets about the film and allows the audience to know what is going to happen within the film although will leave them asking questions which is what a trailers main aim is for. Depending on the film it can be shocking and may allow the audience to ask questions about some of the characters, which is something that should be done within a Slasher film. Within the trailer fast cutting of the editing is used to create the impression of speed which is the right atmosphere for the film as it is a action film. Furthermore, by using the variation of different camera shot such as high angle shots and close up shows how diverse the action could be. Another way which will make people want to go to the cinema to watch it is by a star doing a junkett (interviews with a star) which will help people to know more information about both the real and reel star which is something people want to know aswell as information on the film. The star will also give a interview on the film which is something that will draw the audience into the film and will allow them to watch it.
Word of the mouth is also something that allows people to watch the film as people are likely to watch a film if it has critical acclaim or if someone they know has said that it is worth watching and this is something that encourage people to watch the film. This is also free and doesn’t cost anything and this could also be done within a real distribution plan although this is normally done once a film has been previewed at the cinema.

Another way to promote films is by using posters to promote both real and hypothetical films. A industry has a better benifit because they already have several other ways to promote a high budget film although a poster can be benificial as it is another source to attract people to watch the film. Below shows an example for the film Dark Knight which is a high concept movie. This poster has a slogan "welcome to a world without rules" which will encourge people to watch the film. The contrast between the dark and bright colours also attract peoples attention. By having the superhero "Batman" in dark clothing also gives him a edge which will attact people even if they havent watched the pervious films.

Overall, a hypothetical distribution can be just as effective as real distribution as some of the things for distribution are used within both of my plan.

Real Distribution

Real Distribution

The real distribution is to help me establish what things I am going to use within my own film that I am making. The types of things of advertising I will need to look at ranges from contacting the local radio to attending small festivals to advertise the film.

One of ways in which I can publicize the event is by advertising the event on the local radio and can be done by asking either Touch Fm (Stratford upon Avon) or Banbury Sound (Banbury) and ask them to announce that there will be a show in both local towns to promote and advertise my own Slasher film and other peoples as well. This idea is accessible as it is affordable and will allow me to raise money from people watching the film which will also cover costs by asking them. It would also be possible to ask the radio station if I could get a interview with them which will also help publicize my event with them which will also allow me to state my reasons for wanting to create the film. It would be possible for me to also have a free viewing for my film possibly at college to allow word of mouth to spread around college which would promote people to watch the film.

Another source that I could look at and would allow me to publicize my event in a variety of places could be by presenting it at small festivals such as the Edinburgh fringe and the virgin short film festival which main objective is to promote young and ambitious film makers. One of the reasons for Virgin sponsoring this film festival is that they will “work with the Uk Film Council and Virgin Media to shoot their next film” and this is something that will encourage and inspire film makers. Another of the reasons is that “12 films will be shown on 214 cinemas across the UK” which will promote inspiring actors. Furthermore, it is often occurs that film critics amongst other people will also attend the viewing of the films at the festivals. For the winner of the film one person will take away “£30,000” which will allow them to continue on with their dreams with creating films. The Edinburgh Fringe Film Festival takes place every year in August which is attended by a range of different critics from around the world and this will encourage new film makers to take their place within the film world.

Another possible way of promoting the film is by creating posters to advertise a local film viewing that you are having for free so that you can gather critical feedback from your target audience as well as other people as it is interesting to hear other people’s opinions on your own film and in my case making a Slasher film will normally only appeal to a certain age range although it would be interesting to hear their opinion as well as my target audience which is people aged 18-30 years old. On the poster I will have to include a snippet of something that is related to my film such as a still shot of a killer or the victim which will create a vibe before my film is viewed.

It may also be possible to post my work on social networking sites such as myspace or facebook which will allow a variety of people to browse my film which is a positive as it doesn’t restrict being only be able to watch it once at a film viewing. This idea would also not cost me a vast amount of money and would be accessible to do as vast amounts of people use both facebook and myspace. Facebook is also useful as it allows me to select people from my target audience to watch the Slasher film which I have made and this means I would get certain feedback which I will defiantly be able to use as critical feedback.

Overall there is a variety of things that I can do which will advertise and distribute my Slasher film which is affordable and accessible.

Focus Group Analysis

Focus Group Analysis

Below shows my focus group analysis and what my focus group thought of my three ideas and what they thought could be done to improve the ideas.

Question One

What is your name and age?
“Eboney and I am 16”
“Jess and im 15”
“Lana and im 17”
“Jack and im 15”
“Ben and im 16”
“Alex and im 18”
“Beth and im 16”

I wanted to find out how old the focus group were so I could find out their options to see what there was a change of option depending on age group. I have also ask their name so its easier to find out each other options. The gender is also something I need to discover as my target audience are both genders so I need to ask a similar amount of both men and women. I have then explained idea one to my focus group and I will now ask them about idea one?

Question Two

From my idea one what did you like about it?

From these remarks asking what they liked about idea one I have found out that they liked the use of the cliff-hanger at the end of the film and thought this worked well. The use of the murders not being seen just heard was also quoted on as it allows the audience to imagine what is happening and allows them to empathise. This question was helpful as it allowed me to see what drew the audience into the idea. I will now need to look at what the original element of the film is.

Question Three

Did you feel their was a original element and why?

From the question which asked is there a original element of the film which is something that is important as it is a area I need to look at I have got the answers that it is different from typical Slasher films as you don’t actually see anyone being murdered you just hear it which people thought was original. I will now look at the next point and see if there is things that could be improved as this is something that will make my idea more strengthened.

Question Four

Is their any points that would improve and why?

From the question asking about any of the points that could be improved I have found out that two of them said that the content is vague and could be more detailed and this is something that has helped me as it means I need to have a background to the characters more and this could also be described. From my focus group I have also found out that the costume wouldn’t’t be appropriate for the character and would need to be more serious to create the right impression and this is something that I will need to look at for my idea and to develop it more. I will now look at the ending which is always crucial to create the right ending.

Question Five

Did you feel the ending is relevant and if not what would you change?

From everyone I asked they all thought that the ending was relevant and with the cliff-hanger made it more effective. I wanted to know if the end was appropriate as if not it is something that I need to change and I have found out from my focus group that they felt it was appropriate. After asking this question I need to explain the two other ideas to my target audience and to discover their options on what they thought of them all.

Question Six

What did you like about idea two?
From the second idea and asking them what they liked about the idea I had a range of different comments ranging from context to sound and I thought this was interesting as different people noticed a range of things from the idea not just the obvious things. Ben said that “focusing on sound and that the idea sounded a good context” and sound is something used within Slasher films to make them more effective. Another thing that is someone stated was that hearing the baby crying but never actually seeing the baby makes the audience asks questions and this is something which I feel is effective. This person also stated the baby was one of the reasons behind her killing which also creates a atmosphere and allows the audience to ask questions and this is something effective. The next question will be enquiring about the original aspect or if there was within this idea.

Question Seven

Was their a original aspect to the idea?

After asking this question I got the response which had shown me that the idea was original and my reason for asking this question was to discover if people liked it and from this it has shown me they have which was helpful. One of the remarks I found interesting was the use of a killer and “how we can relate to the victim and the killer and this is unusual”, which has enlightened me and this is something interesting. From this question I am now going to look at if there is anything that needs improving for idea two.

Question Eight

Is their any points that would improve and why?

I wanted to ask this question as I need to know what I could do to improve and from the results I have found out that there needs to be more of a background story to the killings and some of the suggestions I got from them was having the killer being connected to the victims such as a old friend “who now cant hang out with them anymore because of the baby” and this is something that I will need to consider and I will think about mentioning this within the film. I will now need ot see if the ending is appropriate and fitted the Slasher genre.

Question Nine

Did you feel the ending was appropriate if not what would you improve?

From peoples opinions asking about if they thought the ending was appropriate and they thought that it makes the “audience think about the baby because you can hear it throughout and makes you think” and this is trying to create a effect which is the right atmosphere for a Slasher film. I am going to explain idea three and ask their opinion on it.

Question Ten

What did you like about idea three?

From this question I have found out that people thought the idea was a “good concept” and that it is “different from every different Slasher film” which I felt was a good response and would intrigue the audience to watch the film because it is different. I am now going to ask if they thought the idea was original.

Question Eleven

Did you feel this idea was original?

The response of this question was positive as everyone from my focus group said that they think the idea was original and that it would work well and this is something that I will look at and consider within my own Slasher film. I am now going to look at anything that could be improved.

Question Twelve

Do you feel the idea needs improving if so why?

After asking this question I have got feedback which is helpful such as when the women is speaking to the victims about losing a object I got the response that if they said they had “lost their child it would be more convincing“ which could be more effective. I also found out that they thought maybe not explaining the ending would also be effective and “if you just see the children go into the house and it end it creates a sense of mystery” which is also another interesting idea. The final question is going to focus on if the ending is appropriate.

Question Thirteen

Do you feel the ending was appropriate?

The main answer I got from this question was that it was appropriate although some people did come up with some other endings such as police or someone like that banging on the door and the film ending there although this could be harder to do within the 10 minute time slot and the problem with using the police although overall I got positive responses and I am now going to ask the final questions to see which one they preferred.

Out of the three ideas which one do you feel would work in the 10 minute space time?

From asking this question I got a straight forward response and everyone I asked said that they said idea three which could be done in the 10 minute slot which has shown me that they thought this idea would work well within the allotted time. I will now ask which one they would prefer to watch out of the three.

Which one would you prefer to watch?

From all of the results I got everyone said that they would prefer to watch the third one if it was made which is showing me that this is what my focus group would like to watch as they have said for the last two questions that they would prefer the third idea.

Do you feel the final idea you have chosen is appropriate and original?

This answer was extremely short as it showed how people liked the idea and thought that the idea is appropriate and they all answered “yes” which has shown me that they liked the idea.

Would you go and watch the film?

I wanted to ask this question as the main reason for making the film is to entertain the audience so I wanted to know if they would watch the film and the answer from my focus group was that “yes” they would and this is a good response.

Overall I wanted to find out what my target audience thought of the three ideas that I proposed and from the responses I have found out that my focus group wanted idea three as a film and this has helped me with establishing the film as I am consulting my target audience constantly to get the correct result.

Health and Safety

Health and Safety

When considering these three ideas there is certain things that I need to concentrate on and this is the health and safety of both my actors and the locations where I am intending to film. I will need to think of all of these things and my health and safety will help to establish this.

For idea one there will be several of different locations used and these will be a alleyway, a house, and a garden and all of these locations hold dangers. A alleyway could be a danger as it would hold hidden dangers such as broken glass as people could cut themselves if they don’t see the glass and this could be a problem as some of my filming will be done at night. To prevent this as much as possible I will brush the surfaces before I begin filming. Another problem that could cause a problem is also pedestrians or traffic coming past the location and this may be prevented if I could use a alleyway which was private and get permission from the owner or pick a time which would lessen both the things above. Due to the fact that I may be filming at night would mean my actors and myself would need to wear reflective jackets. This location wouldn’t necessary be located next to all of the amenities such as a toilet or a shelter for all weather conditions and this is something that I will need to consider and I will need to find something that will cater for all of these things. I am considering using a car for my actors to keep warm and dry whilst they are not involved in a sceptic scenes and I will also provide a meal for everyone. The second location will be inside a house and the major problem could be unneeded items which makes the area cluttered and would make it harder to film in some cases and may allow for my actors to fall over due to the area being cluttered and this will be prevented by clearing the area before filming. The final location that may be used within idea one is a garden which could also cause several hazards. One of the problems may be filming at night and this would mean providing everyone on set with a high visibility jacket and I would also have to clear the area before it gets dark to prevent people hurting themselves. I would also have to provide a source of light to allow people to see whilst on set. Weather could also be a problem and because two of my locations are outside I would have to be flexible and organised if the weather conditions were not appropriate for filming.

The second idea would involve three locations and they would be situated in close proximity of each other which would be accessible for all of my actors to reach. The first location would be a house and the main hazards would be the “clutter” and this would mean clearing the area before filming as room is meant to look compact and small and this would mean also keeping the area clear whilst filming. I will also need to make sure that the house is kept clear of animals and this could be handled by keeping them in a empty room whilst filming. The second and third location would be outside in a alleyway and in a deserted street and all of the filming would be at night which means I would have to use reflective jackets and provide lights for everyone on set. For this location I would also have to provide areas for my actors to keep out of the weather conditions due to how diverse the weather may be. Furthermore, I will have to provide shelter and food supplies for them aswell and this will be done by using shelter i.e a home nearby and providing food for them. I will also need to consider people who are using the alleyway and this would be a problem as they would be walking past the set when I am filming which would cause problems. I would need to seek permission from the land owner before filming within the area although if I was to use some land I would try and use private land which could help with filming. I would also need to make sure I clear the area of any rubbish which may cause my actors to slip or hurt themselves whilst or before filming.

The final idea three is based in two locations and they a house and street even though there doesn’t seem to be any problems with these locations there is still a risk of hazards such as people injuring themselves due to the weather conditions or filming in at night. Filming at night could be a issue as people may slip on objects and wont be able to see what is in front of them and this would cause a accident. To prevent this I will need to give all of my actors with a reflective jacket and this will help to prevent damage. The weather could be a important problem when having to film outside as I will have to be aware of as I will need to be aware of the weather conditions and will need to be flexible. Within the house the main problem would be with the furniture which may be in the way when I am filming and this will solved by clearing the area to prevent damaging any of the furniture etc.

Overall, all of the hazards that may occur in all of the locations are things that I could prevent to make the locations safe and practical to use and also accessible.

Real Budgeting Plan

Real Budgeting Plan

Below shows my real budgeting plan for idea one. Due to me borrowing the equipment from college I wont need to hire any equipment such as the camera equipment or use the editing suite. I wont need to hire locations out as I am using private areas or places that don’t require any permission. The main things that I will be focusing on will be the costume, props, transport.

Below shows the real budget for idea one

Costume

Below shows the list for props for idea one

Below shows my results for idea one about makeup that I will need to use within my Slasher film.

Below shows Transport costs for idea one

Total Cost for Idea One:

Below shows my real budget plan for idea two and the main areas that I am concentrating on and they are, costume, makeup, props and transport.

Total Cost:

Below shows my budgeting for idea three and the things that I will be concentrating on and they are costume, props, makeup and transport because the locations I will be using are owned privately or places which are deserted.

Costume

Props for Idea Three

Makeup for Idea three

Transport for Idea Three

Total Cost

From doing my real budget plan for all of my three ideas they are meant to help me with which idea is feasible, manageable and affordable. The first idea showed that it would cost me overall £109 pounds and the most expensive cost from this would be from costume as this would cost me £59 pounds as I would have to buy the costumes such as the vampire costume and a evil fairy and this would be expensive if idea one was a possible idea. For idea two it would cost me overall £19.00 pounds if everything and the most expensive area would be transport as all 6 actors would be getting the bus at £2.00 each and all of the other areas would be accessible an example of this is costume and all of the costumes I own or would borrow. For idea three the most expensive cost would also be transport and this would be for buses as I would be transporting all 8 of my actors to set by bus costing £2.00 per person.

Interview Anyalsis

Interview Anyalsis

Below will show my results from asking a vareity of different people within my target audience and from asking 10 people from the group. My main reason for asking these questions is to give me a insight into what people like.

Question One

What Gender are you?

Person One: (Kim) Male
Person Two: (Jamie) Female
Person Three: (Luke) Male
Person Four: (Chrissie) Female
Person Five: (Brandon) Male
Person Six: (Shirley) Female
Person Seven: (Jenny) Female
Person Eight: (Callum) Male
Person Nine: (James) Male

Question one was asking what gender my age group were and this was to see what if there would be a difference in the results and from this you can see I have asked 5 males and 5 females and I will now need to look in-depth at the rest of their results.

Question Two

What attracts you to Slasher films?

Person One: “they are very interesting and make you think half of the time and their very clever”
Person Two: “the thrills and tension”
Person Three: “they build pace and tension a lot”
Person Four: “they’re good entertainment”
Person Five: “they keep you on the edge on your seat”
Person Six: “the ambience and their good to frighten yourself”
Person Seven: “a psychopathic killer”
Person Eight “the tension and the fast pace”
Person Nine: “creepiness of the play”

This question was asking why people what Slasher films and what attracts them to. From the results it has shown me that most people what Slasher films due to the tension that it builds. My main reason on asking this question was to help me to see what they would like to see within a Slasher film as this would help me within my Slasher film. The results have also shown me that the same thing would attract the audience and this didn’t change just because of their gender. I will now look at the next question asking what their favourite Slasher film was to see if the results may vary depending on their gender.

Question Three

What is your favourite Slasher film?

Person One: “The ring”
Person Two: “The messengers”
Person Three: “Saw”
Person Four: “Nightmare on Elm Street”
Person Five: “Saw”
Person Six: “Nightmare on Elm Street”
Person Seven: “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”
Person Eight: “Nightmare on Elm Street”
Person Nine: “Halloween”

I decided to ask this question to see if their was a difference in what people wanted depending on their age although from the results they are varied and don’t follow a structure although it does show that persons four and six which were both female and their favourite film was “Nightmare on Elm street” and person three and five their favourite film was “Saw” and they were both male. From this question it has shown me what their favourite film was although I will now need to look at if they have watched it more than once and if they have why.

Question Four

Have you watched it more than once & what attracts you to watch it?

Person One: “I have only watched it once but its very clever and its interesting to watch”
Person Two: “yes, because its scary and jumpy and one of those on your edge seats”
Person Three: “yes, every time you watch it you pick up something new”
Person Four: “yes because it never gets old”
Person Five: “yes I have because of the variety of different killings”
Person Six: “no”
Person Seven: “yes, three times because it’s funny to watch as its fake”
Person Eight: “no because its removes some of the scare and surprise from it”
Person Nine: “yes because its John Carpenter at his best and is directed beautifully and shows that anywhere can be made to be scary”

I wanted to know peoples opinions of this film because I wanted to know if there was a similar thing that made people want to watch it. From looking at the results I have found out that everyone liked the Slasher films for different reasons and everyone apart from three people had watched the film more than once for several different reasons and one person even said they had watched it “three times because its funny to watch as its fake” which I thought was a unusual answer. I will now need to go in to depth to see what part of the film was most prominent for them.

Question Five

What would you consider to be the most prominent moment of the film and why?

Person One: “probably when the girl comes out of the hole in the ground with blood on her face and stumbles into the forest”
Person Two: “when all of the older characters kill the man who killed everyone else as it finishes of the story nicely”
Person Three: “I like the way it chill characters to make the scary”
Person Four: “when it goes into the dreams and back into real life”
Person Five: “the killing because it’s done in extraordinary ways”
Person Six: “when they reveal who the murderer is”
Person Seven: “Kirk enters the house when you know he shouldn’t it is classic”
Person Eight: “the end of the film when the girl thinks its going to be alright and the car pulls up and she gets in and it crushes her and its like the killer in the nightmare has caught up with her”
Person Nine: “just the way it’s filmed the way its all from his point of view”

From this question I wanted to discover what people considered to be the most prominent moment of the film basically why they remembered it. There is a varied opinion on why they remember it although from the results the issue of death or imminent death is something that reoccurs with the majority of the answers. One of the answers which was interesting was the response from person nine (James) said the way in which it was filmed was more effective and I thought this was unusual although something to consider as this person liked the idea of this being a more prominent moment. I will now look at the next question to see what effects where used within the film and why they considered them effective.

Question Six

What effects were used within the film and why did you consider it effective?

Person One: “probably maybe lighting”
Person Two: “there were a lot of flashbacks which explain the characters and a lot of jumping around between the scenes”
Person Three: “the way in which saw uses flashbacks to give you more of an outline of the story”
Person Four: “the way in which when they are in the bedroom fire and stuff is used”
Person Five: “the story behind the characters”
Person Six: “music, masks”
Person Seven: “the climax and anti-climax”
Person Eight: “the dream sequence as it makes it more personal to you and you can connect to it a lot more.
Person Nine: “the use of different camera shots”

This question was meant to allow me to gather a insight into what effects they would notice within a Slasher film of their choice. From this information I have found out that everyone had a different opinion on stuff that they notice. An example of this is the use of “the climax and anti-climax” compared to the use of “flashbacks” which is something that a couple of people noticed. This question will help me with any further information with my own film as these are all things that I could use and would be effective.

Question Seven

What sort of killer would you least expect?

Person One: “a teenager”
Person Two: “perhaps a younger character maybe”
Person Three: “an elderly lady”
Person Four: “a old man”
Person Five: “women”
Person Six: “a downtrodden women”
Person Seven: “a terrorist”
Person Eight: “an older person”
Person Nine: “probably someone who’s involved with the main characters”

The main reason for asking this question was to help me find someone for my own Slasher film as I want someone who is going to effective and unexpected and it was also good to see out of 10 people which of them thought certain people would make a effective killer. The results show that 3 out of the 9 thought a older character would be effective and 2 people thought that a women would be effective which is something I thought was helpful.

Question Eight

Do you feel something is missing within a Slasher film?

Person One: “sometimes they can be a bit to poorly directed and sometimes they are not as clever and the plot is basic”
Person Two: “something with a twist like the killer starts hurting them so they are not thought of to be the killer”
Person Three: “no”
Person Four: “no”
Person Five: “no”
Person Six: “no”
Person Seven: “no”
Person Eight: “sometimes the plot isn’t very complicated and is basic”
Person Nine: “I guess you could use issues to scare people”

From these results asking if anything is missing I have found out that 5 out of the 9 people thought that nothing was missing within a Slasher film although 2 of the four people thought the plot was basic and the other two people thought that using a twist for people to start killing themselves would make the story more original and this is something I thought was interesting and by also using the theme of using people issues something they are scared off would be something that people would empathise with as this will create tension. These results have helped me when producing something original. I will now look some other things which could help me.

Question Nine

Do you feel non diegetic music is effective?

Person One: “I prefer not to have any music”
Person Two: “yes”
Person Three: “yes”
Person Four: “Yes”
Person Five: “yes because it creates tension”
Person Six: “yes”
Person Seven: “yes the music is the best”
Person Eight: “urm yerh”
Person Nine: “it could work quite well without it”

From this question which is asking if non diegetic music adds tension I have found out that 7 out of 9 people would prefer non diegetic music and only 2 thought that it could work without using non diegetic music which has shown me that my target audience would prefer to have music playing. It has also me that the 2 that didn’t want music were both males. I am now going to look at the next questions asking where the murderers could take place.

Question Ten

Where would you like the murders to take place?

Person One: “forest, or maybe somewhere like a office building”
Person Two: “in a typical place like a graveyard or maybe somewhere unique like a beach”
Person Three: “in my house”
Person Four: “in my garden”
Person Five: “somewhere unusual, e.g. a rugby field”
Person Six: “ in the middle of a forest”
Person Seven: “in the forest”
Person Eight: “probably somewhere conventional like a forest or a castle”
Person Nine: “somewhere unexpected, maybe someone’s house”

I wanted to ask this question to find out more information on where the murders could take place and if it would be somewhere conventional or if people wanted them to be somewhere different. From this question it has shown me that most people wouldn’t mind it in either places it would just depend on the action taking place and this is something that appealed to me. From this question asking where they would like them to take place it has also shown me that it wouldn’t be as difficult to find somewhere to film. I am now going to look at the characters themselves.

Question Eleven

Would you like more information on the victims i.e the background?

Person One: “if I like the character than yes”
Person Two: “I think the less you know the more mysterious it is”
Person Three: “no because Saw describes them pretty well”
Person Four: “ I think they should have more information on the victims after”
Person Five: “Yes”
Person Six: “Yes”
Person Seven: “Yes”
Person Eight: “for the victims yes”
Person Nine: “yes, maybe because the audience will like them and then be really sad when there dead”

From looking at these results asking if people would like more information on the victims 8 out of 9 people thought that having more information on the victims would be helpful. This is something that is has appealed to me as it allowed me to gain more of a insight into what people like/want within a Slasher film. I feel the only comment “no because Saw explains it well” is specific to the type of film. The final question I want to ask is what narrative people would like to see.

Question Twelve

Do you like a linear or non-linear narrative?

Person One: “linear”
Person Two: “non-linear”
Person Three: “non-linear”
Person Four: “non-linear”
Person Five: “linear”
Person Six: “ linear”
Person Seven: “linear”
Person Eight: “linear”
Person Nine: “iv never seen a Slasher film with a non-linear narrative so I would be interested in seeing that”

I wanted this as my final question as it allows me to see what sort of narrative I should use within my Slasher film. 5 out of the 9 people wanted to see a linear narrative as this is common for Slasher films although 4 people wanted to see non linear narrative because they have never seen them before. Overall I feel this question is important as it allows me to set the narrative for my own Slasher films. The final person I asked said that they didnt mind either type of narrative. From the interview anyaylis I am going to have to make sure that I use the coventions that I have discovered from some of my target audience.
